NASWF Selects Sailors of the Quarter
Air Traffic Controller 1st Class Aritha Gregory, Damage Controlman 2nd Class Chad Simon, and Air Traffic Controller 3rd Class Treveontay Moore were recently selected by Naval Air Station Whiting Field (NASWF) as Sailor, Junior Sailor, and Bluejacket of the Quarter for the second quarter for 2008.
This award recognizes them as the top Sailors at the command and acknowledges their superior efforts, professionalism, technical knowledge, and community involvement. The three Sailors will receive
Gregory is the Leading Petty Officer for the Navy Outlying Field Choctaw where she supervises and mentors more than 60 junior Sailors, and is the senior manager present at the facility overseeing all aspects of Choctaw's operation. She also serves as the Command Managed Equal Opportunity (CMEO) manager for the base, helping to train and inform base personnel on proper equal opportunity instructions and procedures.
"She is a complete leader, who empowers every Sailor to excel. She provides her team with the necessary skills to complete the tasks at hand," said Lt. Randy Roy, Air Traffic Control Division Officer. She is the embodiment of the special qualities of pride and professionalism and an outstanding choice for Senior Sailor of the Quarter."
Simon qualified as one of the base's Security Force Watch Commanders, a post where he is responsible for the law enforcement and force protection teams at the main air station as well as the 14 outlying fields during his watch. He also serves as a Duty Armorer, maintaining control over the issue of all small arms and ammunition at the command. His efforts recently contributed to the immensely successful completion of a Naval Ordnance Safety and Security inspection.
"Petty Officer Simon consistently demonstrates all of the traits and characteristics expected. His performance is above and beyond, and he is most deserving of this selection," said Master Chief Aviation Boatswain's Mate John Floyd, NASWF Security Officer.
As a junior Sailor in the Air Traffic Control Division, Moore seves as a position with responsibility far beyond his rank. He is the Flight Planning supervisor for one of the towers shifts and helps to train other junior Sailors in the day to day routine of flight planning. He has also qualified as a Flight Data and Ground Controller which helps ease the workload on other team members.
"This hard charging, newly frocked young Sailor is an invaluable asset to our division and the Whiting Field team. His performance and contributions to the Air Traffic control division are highly instrumental in maintaining mission readiness for the command," said Roy.
The Sailors will all be recognized at the next command awards ceremony.
