Peacock crossing

A peacock was seen strutting alongside Highway 90 in front of the Bitco Bait and Tackle shop in Milton Monday afternoon. The male peacock, along with another male and a female with her babies wander alongside the busy roadway during the day.

The peacocks belong to Lloyd Russell Sloan, Sr and make frequent visits to Bitco Bait and Tackle where owners Rebecca Melvin and “Bit” Melvin feed the peacocks crickets and corn when they visit.

The owner of the peacocks had Tom-Tom, one of his prize white turkeys stolen from his property one year ago, but was returned to him shortly after.  Since then, Rebecca said Sloan’s small farm comprised of goats, peacocks, chickens and turkeys have seen its share of visitors.

“He finally got his turkey back, and he was so happy,” Rebecca said about Sloan.

The female peacock has three babies that follow her around Sloan’s yard.
