Officer faces DUI charges

A Milton Police officer relieved of duty with pay following his arrest Monday morning.

Officer Kevin Sunday, 29 of Pace, was charged with driving under the influence involving alcohol or drugs and has been released from the Santa Rosa County Jail after posting $1,000.

According to the report of Santa Rosa County Deputy Jeremy Snow, while on patrol he responded to a suspicious vehicle at the Circle K at the corner of Woodbine Road and Quintette Rd. in Pace.

The call was in reference to a truck parked near the front door of the store.

Snow says when he walked up, he noticed a wallet on the ground near the front tire of the truck with several cards near the wallet.

Snow says Sunday, who was later identified by his driver’s license, appeared to be passed out in the drivers seat.

Snow looked for the keys to the truck and found them in Sunday’s hand, which was on his chest.

When backup arrived, Deputy Snow opened the door to wake Sunday.

The arrest report indicates Sunday could not answer any of Deputy Snow’s questions or walk without almost falling down.

During the field sobriety test administered by Deputy Snow, the report indicated he failed five different field sobriety tests.

Sunday indicated following his arrest he had taken “zomas,” according to the report, prior to driving and should not have driven to the store.

Deputy Snow requested a copy of the store video for evidence as well as calling an on-duty Milton Police Officer to record the field sobriety tests on his car video.

Milton Police Chief Greg Brand indicated an investigation is being conducted into the Monday morning incident.

“Officer Sunday has been relieved of his duty with pay at this time,” Brand said. “Officer Sunday will not drive a city vehicle of any kind until this matter is resolved.”

Brand would not indicate what further action could be taken.

Two breath samples given by Sunday registered zero and a urine sample was taken for evidence.
