City of Milton meetings
City of Milton Public Works Committee will meet Feb. 23 at 8 a.m. in Conference Room B at Milton City Hall.
Milton’s Parks and Recreation Committee will meet Feb. 27 at 8:30 a.m. in Conference Room B at Milton City Hall.
City of Milton Stormwater Management Committee will meet March 1 at 8 a.m. in Conference Room B at Milton City Hall.
Milton’s City Council will meet in Executive Session on March 5, at 4 p.m. in the Council Chambers at city hall.
City of Milton’s City Council will meet in regular session on March 13 at 5 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Milton City Hall.

College Scholarship Opportunity
Santa Rosa County Supervisor of Elections Ann W. Bodenstein is accepting applications for a $1,200 college scholarship to be awarded this summer by the Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections for the 2012 school year. The scholarship is available to juniors or seniors attending an accredited Florida university or college with a major in political science, public or business administration, or journalism/mass communications.

Covenant Hospice to host Remembrance Celebration
Covenant Hospice invites bereaved hospice families, as well as community members who have endured the loss of a loved one, to attend a special Remembrance Celebration at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19 at Woodbine United Methodist Church, located at 5200 Woodbine Road in Pace.
Covenant Hospice patients and community members who have died will be remembered and celebrated by family, friends and staff. The celebration will include music, candle lighting and selected readings. Children and teens are invited to participate in a special procession, and are asked to bring a long-stem flower. A reception with refreshments will follow.
Covenant encourages anyone in the community who has suffered the loss of a loved one to join the non-profit organization in remembering and celebrating the lives of those who were dear to them. For more information, please call Laura Wessinger at 850-202-5930.
St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Children’s Mardi Gras Parade
St. Mary’s Episcopal Church will host a Children’s Mardi Gras Parade and Church Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on Feb. 22 at 5 p.m. Children are invited to bring their bikes, trikes, strollers, wagons, wheelcharies and march with the “saints” down one block of Oak Street in Milton. Decorating will begin at 5 p.m. with the church supplying the beads and candy to toss in the parade which is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
This is a free event for the children of the community.
After the Children’s Mardi Gras Parade, St. Mary’s Episcopal Church will host a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. Children age three and under eat free, ages three to 12 are $3, and 13 to an adult is $5. Menu is pancakes, ham, applesauce, and drink. Carry outs are available. Book Workship Planned
February 25, the Santa Rosa Art Association will sponsor a Handmade Book Workshop in building 4900 of the Milton Campus of PJC from 10 a.m. - noon. Tuition for non-SRAA members is $10. The presenting artist, Mary Richardson has a list of required supplies which is posted on the SRAA website.
The workshop will be preceded by the monthly meeting of the Art Association at 9 a.m. in the same location. Guests are always welcomed at the Art Association meetings and workshops. For additional information, call 995-9717.
Bagdad Bulldog Bash
Bagdad Elementary will be having its Annual Bulldog Bash at Bagdad Community Park on March 31 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Food, Fun and Games for the community! We are currently looking for vendors who would like to set up booths at our festival. Come join us and sell your hand crafted items or home based business products. Vendor fee is 20.00. Purple Heart Chapter 566 meeting
Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 566 and the Ladies Auxiliary will be holding it's Feb. 25 meeting at the new Pensacola Volunteers of America Living Center, "Pensacola Veterans Housing" located at 1622 Blackwell Lane, Pensacola at 10:30 a.m.. The Ladies Auxiliary Unit 566 will be presenting the Pensacola Veterans Housing with two Flag Poles and having a Kitchen/Bath Shower to help supply the thirty new units. A tour of the new facilities will follow. Everyone will enjoy a Red Bean and Rice meal served in their meeting room prepared by the Ladies Auxiliary for a donation. Performing the February concerts are: THE WAYFARERS from Daphne, AL, at 6pm AND
THE RAIL from Century, FL, at 7pm. Public is welcome!
The admission is $3 for GCBMA members and $5 for non-members. The PSC Alpha Beta Gamma
Student Business Club offers dinners & refreshments starting at 5pm. Come early - eat dinner &
socialize. After the concerts there are door prizes and a 50/50 drawing.

Milton Garden Club’s ‘Luck of the Irish’
Milton Garden Club’s Morning Glory Circle presents its annual “Luck of the Irish” by bringing a little Ireland to the Milton Garden Center on March 9 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Milton Garden Center on Alabama St. The garden club will hold raffles and many other items. The raffle items have been purchased or collected by members throughout the year for the raffle. An entrance charge of $7 will include refreshments and five tickets. Al-Anon meetings
Al-Anon meets every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the portable behind Woodbine United Methodist Church. They also have a Spanish meeting at St. Rose of Lima Church every Friday at 10 a.m. in Room 2 of the Educational Building. Al-Anon is a support group for family members of people who have alcohol abuse issues.
English as a Second Language Classes
Santa Rosa Adult School is offering English as a Second Language (ESOL) classes to aid the growing population of non-native English speakers in the area. The classes will provide life skills that are needed in reading, writing, and speaking English. The program's goal is to help students function effectively in their daily routines.
Classes are $30 per term with proof of Florida residency for the last 12 months. The classes are $120 per term without proof of residency. Classes are from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Students may enroll at any time during the term. Veterans Upward Bound offers free refresher courses for vets and more!
If you are a military veteran wanting to achieve your dream of a college education, the Veterans Upward Bound program at Pensacola State College can help. The program prepares eligible veterans for entry into college with free non-credit refresher courses and helps veterans apply for financial aid and scholarships. Classes are available throughout the year.
Stop at the Veterans Upward Bound office in Building 6 on the Pensacola campus, or call (850) 484-2068 to set up an appointment.
Call for Habitat
Habitat for Humanity, a volunteer program that specializes in building/rebuilding homes for low-income families, is in desperate need of volunteers. There are several new / on-going projects in both Escambia and Santa Rosa County. If you can use a hammer, you can help!

Half Century Dance
Senior Citizens Dance every Monday, 7 - 9:30 p.m. at the Fleet Reserve on 6409 Fleet Avenue in Milton.
