Immanuel Baptist News - March 17, 2010
The Easter Bunny, coloring and hunting eggs, chocolate candy, new clothes in spring colors, baskets with goodies, cute chirping chicks, and furry lambs are all things children enjoy about Easter. It is a fun, joyful, time of celebration. However, the most wonderful part of Easter is the fact that Jesus is alive! For children, that is probably the most puzzling aspect of the holiday.
Children may wonder why we have the Easter Bunny. The furry little guy represents the new life that occurs in springtime. Lots of baby animals arrive at this time of year. Perhaps that is why the cute chirping chicks get a lot of attention, too. Children also may wonder why we color eggs and hide them. There are many European customs, legends, and tales as to why we color eggs and hide them. In addition, eggs are another symbol of new life. New, spring colored clothing just goes along with what nature brings us in spring, a pageantry of beautiful yellows, blues, greens, and pinks. Springtime and Easter are both about new life.
Children may also wonder what Jesus has to do with Easter. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is why we celebrate Easter. It is through Jesus that a person (child or adult) can have a new life. Admitting that we are sinners, believing that Jesus is the perfect Son of God sent to take the punishment for our sin, and confessing Jesus as Lord and Savior is the only way to begin a new life in Christ. It is that simple and it is the same decision for children, teens, and adults. We must celebrate Jesus for giving us that gift!
At Immanuel Baptist Church, we desire for all to have a new life in Christ. Bring your children to our annual Easter Picnic and Egg Hunt and find out more about how to start a new life. We will gather in the Activity Center after our 10:30 worship service on March 21st. Children will need to bring a basket or container for the eggs they collect. For more information call the church office at 994-6152 or email us at anne@paceimmanuel.org. Happy Easter!
