Bluegrass Jam Session
The Gulf Coast Bluegrass Music Association Monthly Concert and Jam Session will be Sept. 24. It is held at the PSC, Milton Campus in building 4200 which is also the Student Activity Center. The cost is $5.00 for non-members and $3.00 for members. The concert will feature Harold & Ovaline Andrews from Mobile at 6 p.m. and The Bluegrass Pilgrims from Chipley, Fla., at 7 p.m. The doors open at 5 p.m., with the concerts starting at 6 p.m. and the jam sessions starting at 8 p.m. The PSC Alpha Beta Gamma Student Business Club is serving dinner plates and refreshments beginning at 5 p.m. Come early, eat dinner and socialize. City of Milton Meetings
City of Milton Parks and Recreation Committee will meet Sept. 26 at 8:30 a.m. in Conference Room B at Milton City Hall.
City of Milton’s Board of Adjustments will meet Sept. 26 at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Milton City Hall.

East Milton MSBU Meeting
The East Milton Fire Department will conduct an MSBU meeting on Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the fire station on Ward Basin Rd.
Republican Club Meeting
The Republican Club of Santa Rosa County will hold its next monthly meeting and Dutch Treat Dinner at The Club at Hidden Creek, 3070 PGA Blvd. in Navarre 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 4. Blood Drive
Northwest Florida Blood Services will conduct a blood drive at West Florida Hospital on Oct. 5 from 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. The mobile units will be parked at the rear of the hospital adjacent to Johnson Avenue. First-time donors must show photo identification. All types of blood are needed. Northwest Florida Blood Services is our community’s blood center, serving the patient and family needs of Northwest Florida and Southeast Alabama. Each unit of blood collected will benefit up to three people of all ages and all walks of life throughout our area.

NARFE Chapter 917 Meeting
The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter 918 will hold its regular monthly meeting on Oct. 6 at 10:45 a.m. at Ryan’s Restaurant in Pace. All active or retired federal employees are invited to attend. The guest speaker for this month’s meeting is Milton Fire Chief John Reble, who will speak on fire safety. Milton Library Fall Book Sale
The Friends of the Milton Library will hold a two day book sale on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8, at the Milton Public Library, 5541 Alabama Street. Sale times are Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Hundreds of gently used hard cover and soft cover books will be offered for sale, along with a selection of videos and books on tape. TDC Meetings
The North End Committee of the Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council will meet from 8:30 until noon on Oct. 13 at the Blackwater Heritage State Trail, 5533 Alabama St., in Milton. This will be their Annual Planning Meeting.
The South End Committee of the Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council will meet from 9 a.m. until noon on Oct. 12 at the Navarre Visitor Center in Navarre. This will be their Annual Planning Meeting.
The Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council will meet at 2 p.m. on Oct. 19 at the Navarre Visitor Center in Navarre.
All meetings are open to the public.
Call to artists
The Santa Rosa Art Association invites artists to participate in 10th Art Fest, Oct. 15, at the Santa Rosa County Auditorium in Milton. The show start at 9 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. This is a juried show. Deadline for application is Sept. 15, 2011. Costs for a 10x10 space is $40.00. DAV Mobile Service Office
The DAV Mobile Service Office will be at the following locations to personally provide the best counseling and claim filing assistance available. Like all D-A-V services, help from the Mobile Service Office is free to all veterans and members of their families.

Thinkin’ Pink
The Santa Rosa Clean Community System, Inc. will host Thinkin’ Pink on Oct. 29, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. on the grounds of the Green-Up Santa Rosa Nursery, 6758 Park Avenue in Milton. The event will benefit American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Research and Local Patient Services and is being presented in honor and memory of original board member and active community volunteer, Esther Sanborn. It is also a part of the 8th Annual Beaches to Woodlands Tour.
Booth spaces are available for $20 and all individuals, businesses, groups and organizations are invited to participate. Booths will be located throughout the nursery grounds. Vendors must supply their own display tables, etc. There will be help available to those who need assistance loading and unloading that day.
Ladies are also invited to enter the Bra Decorating Contest, $10 per bra entered, which will be judged by three "celebrity" judges. There will also be a People's Choice Award which will be determined by the popular vote ($1 per vote) and will be presented following the event. In addition, the Esther Sanborn Award will be presented to one of the entries. Weekend getaway packages will be awarded to both first place winners.
Raffles for packages to IP Casino, Resort & Spa in Biloxi and Wind Creek Casino and Hotel in Atmore will be held. Soft Rock 94.1 will be on location and Red Barn BBQ will be serving up delicious food. And, the nursery will offer a wide variety of plants, shrubs and garden accessories for all your fall decorating needs.

Homemakers Holiday Craft Show
The Annual Homemakers Holiday Craft Show will be held Nov. 4 and Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Santa Rosa County Auditorium in Milton. The craft show features crafts made my local artisans, homemade soup and sandwiches, desserts, and lots of door prizes. There is no admission fee. Booth space is still available for rent. If you would like to rent a booth or get additional information, please call the University of Florida-Santa Rosa County Cooperative Extension Service-IFAS at 623-3868 from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
A Call to Artists and Craftspeople
Santa’s Workshop Crafts Fair, sponsored by the Navarre Garden Club, will be setting up at the Navarre Conference Center on Highway 98 on Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
We are expecting vendors of all sorts, both inside and outside coming from near and far. Everyone can put a good sized dent in their Christmas shopping list, with unique items sold in the various booths.
Ye Old Bake Shoppe will be serving up homemade cakes, pies and goodies for the Thanksgiving holidays following soon after. Don’t miss your opportunity to have a booth in this gala event. Inside booths are 10’x5, and rent for $40.- (6’ table available for an additional $5). An outside space will accommodate a 10’ x 10’tent. space is limited so send your application in soon.

ACT/SAT Workshops
Students in Santa Rosa County who will be taking the Oct. 22 ACT and the Nov. 5 SAT test can attend a workshop to be held in Gulf Breeze. Alice Hart will conduct the classes and the workshop will consist of approximately 12 hours of instruction over six sessions covering both the ACT and SAT. Registration for this workshop must be postmarked by Oct. 3. All materials, snacks, and drinks are furnished. Students will need to bring calculators. Al-Anon Meetings
Al-Anon meets every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Woodbine United Methodist Church in the portable located behind the church. They also have a Spanish meeting at St. Rose of Lima Church every Friday at 10 a.m. in Room 2 of the Educational Building. Al-Anon is a support group for family members of people who have alcohol abuse issues.
Navarre Arts Association Seeking Artists for Festival
The Greater Navarre Beach Arts Association has issued a call for artists and crafters for the Navarre Fall Arts Festival 2011, scheduled for Oct. 8 and 9, in the Navarre Park adjacent to the Navarre Visitor’s Information Center.
Deadline for applications is Sept. 1, however with only 50 booth spaces available, acceptance will be on a “first come” basis. There are also 10 food vendor spaces and 10 local business spaces.

Team Registration Open For Annual Fire Truck Pull
The Ronald McDonald House will host their annual Fire Truck Pull competition on Oct. 1 at Seville Quarter in downtown Pensacola. Teams of 20 people will compete to pull a fire truck 50 feet in the least amount of time. Groups, clubs, or businesses who are interested in competing can contact the Ronald McDonald House for fundraising and registration materials. Other sponsorship opportunities are available. This is a fun event each year and can be a great team building activity.
100% of the proceeds from this event go to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Florida to provide a Home-Away-From-Home and source of respite and resources for critically-ill children and their families. Learn English with ESOL Class
Pensacola State College offers English for Speakers of Other Languages classes at its Pensacola and Warrington campuses.
ESOL classes provide instruction in everyday survival skills and basic knowledge of English reading, writing and speaking.
