Car accident on Garcon Point Road claims a life
According to a report released by the Florida Highway Patrol, Loren D. Giles, 45, of Milton, was killed when his car was involved in a single-car accident on Garcon Point Road on Wednesday afternoon.
The report states Giles was driving a 1995 Dodge two-door northbound on Garcon Point Road at a high rate of speed.
Near the intersection of Alpha Street, the vehicle left the road to the notheast. Giles overcorrected and the vehicle rotated counter-clockwise and left the road to the northwest.
The front right of the vehicle struck a large pine tree and overturned several times.
Giles was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.
He received critical injuries and was transported to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola where he was subsequently pronounced deceased at 5:16 p.m.
The passenger, Jordan Long, 28 of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, was wearing a seatbelt and was transported to Baptist Hospital in serious condition.
The case is still under investigation.
