Kwanzaa Celebration

The Kwanzaa Committee of Pensacola in association with Hurrey-Up Stage and Film Works will present the 25th Annual Kwanzaa Celebration. This event has nothing to do with religion—People from all kinds of cultural backgrounds can benefit from the values expressed during Kwanzaa—Come and share with us in this celebration of community and spirit. It will be Saturday, Dec. 26, from 12 to 5 p.m. at Booker T. Washington High School, Pensacola (off of Airport Blvd., next to Sam’s Club). Free admission. Come and support local vendors selling unique merchandise and ‘good eats.’ Umoja Celebration will begin at 2 p.m. For more information or to be a vendor, call 850-291-2718.

 

Holiday Sanitation schedule

City Hall will be closed Thursday, Dec. 24, Friday, Dec. 25, and Friday, January 1st. For the week of the 21st, Monday & Tuesday routes will be picked up as scheduled. Thursday & Friday, there will be no garbage pickup. City Hall’s Public Works desk and accounting will reopen  Dec. 28 at 7:30 a.m.

For the week of Dec. 28, routes will be as follows: Monday & Tuesday picked up as scheduled. Thursday route will be picked up on Wednesday; Friday route will be picked up on Thursday. Public Works Window and accounting will resume operation on Friday, January 2, 2010 at 7:30 a.m.

 

West Florida Mobile Mammography Unit schedule for Santa Rosa County

West Florida Hospital’s Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the following locations for the weeks of December 21 and 28 to offer convenient, high quality mammography services for women age 35 and over. West Florida files mot insurances, including Medicare (Medicare will cover screening mammograms every year with no deductible for those women over 40 who have the coverage). Tuesday, December 29 — 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. & 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at West Florida Primary Care, 3521 Limbaugh Lane, Pace. Granny Nannies to assist Council on Aging with blankets and heaters

Granny Nannies will be responding to the request of the Council on Aging  of West Florida by donating blankets and heaters for the elderly to the 875 Royce Street location. Heaters and blankets can be dropped off at any Council on Aging location, 875 Royce Street in Pensacola, 5341 Stewart Street in Milton, 132 Mintz Lane in Cantonment, Gulf Breeze Area Chamber of Commerce and Navarre Chamber of Commerce.

 

Local student makes 2009-10 Dean list

DePaul University student Amanda Blanchette of Pace has been named tot he Dean’s List for the 2009-10 Fall quarter. To receive Dean’s List commendation, full-time students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4-point scale. Congratulations!
