Miller to Accept Honor Flight Donation

Representatives from the Emerald Coast Honor Flight Santa Rosa County Initiative will present Congressman Jeff Miller with a $25,000 donation for the Honor Flight program on Monday, October 13 at 8:30 a.m. at the TEAM Santa Rosa conference room located at 6491 Caroline Street, Suite 4 in Milton. The check will bring the total donated to the program to $35,000. The Santa Rosa Initiative hopes to send 100 Santa Rosa County WWII Veterans to Washington, DC at no cost to them. Since the group formed in June, they have raised over $52,000 of their $80,000 goal.

The Emerald Coast Honor Flight Santa Rosa County Initiative is continuing to raise funds to meet their goals with tremendous local support. The Santa Rosa County School District is actively supporting the program with all 33 schools and three administrative departments pledging to raise money for an honor flight candidate. Additionally, a second Honor Flight Golf Tournament is planned for November 14.  The public is urged to consider putting together a team and becoming a sponsor. Donations can also be made in any amount directly to the Santa Rosa County Veterans Memorial-Honor Flight fund, at 5191-C Willing Street, Milton, FL 32570. All donations are tax deductible.

Commissioner Don Salter noted, “I am not surprised that our community is stepping up to take care of our own. Our residents have shown an overwhelming support to send every World War II Veteran in Santa Rosa County on a flight to see their memorial. We have made tremendous strides toward our goal and I have no doubt that working together we can send our finest heroes on what many have said is their greatest journey. I urge everyone interested in supporting the program to act quickly as our WWII Veterans are fading daily.”

The Emerald Coast Honor Flight Santa Rosa County Initiative is made up of leaders including elected officials, area chambers of commerce, businesses, and NAS Whiting Field.  As part of an Honor Flight, WWII veterans visit their memorial and are recognized for their service to our country.
