“Destination Anywhere” exhibit showcases artists with disabilities
The Anna Lamar Switzer Center for Visual Arts presents the traveling exhibit “Destination Anywhere” May 19 through July 11 as part of the Lyceum series at Pensacola Junior College.
For the fifth year, VSA arts and Volkswagen of America Inc. have partnered to recognize and showcase young artists with disabilities, ages 16-25, living in the United States.
Over 20,000 call-for-entries were sent to high schools and colleges around the country, inviting submissions that illustrated the theme “Destination Anywhere.” Participants were asked to consider the picture plane as a destination, a place where the viewer might take a trip they never expected. The call also encouraged artists to contemplate their life and its relationship to art and disability.
Selected from 206 submissions, 15 finalists were awarded a total of $60,000 generously provided by Volkswagen of America, Inc.
The Anna Lamar Switzer Center for Visual Arts is honored to sponsor and bring this important traveling exhibition – along with Volkswagen of America Inc. and Pete Moore Volkswagen – to the Gulf Coast community. Admission is free.
