Gulf Power crews work to restore a pole that was struck by this truck driven by an unidentified man after the driver hit the pole after veering off of the road Tuesday night. CRASH4: Minor damage can be seen on the side of the Culpepper Insurance building along with damage to the telephone pole that was replaced overnight by Gulf Power crews.

Truck strikes pole, insurance building

An unknown male ran his truck off of Caroline Street at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night and into a telephone pole beside Culpepper Insurance in Milton.

No one was inside Culpepper Insurance when the GMC truck struck the side of the building.

According to Katie Culpepper, she was told by Milton Police that a motorist witnessed the man weaving all over the side of the road, and that’s when she said Milton police told her the truck swerved off of the road and into their parking lot later striking a pole next to their building. She said that police told her that the man was intoxicated.

Gulf Power was out at Culpepper Insurance at around 10 p.m. last night installing a new pole.

Another witness, Ian Skelley of Pensacola was leaving Texas Roadhouse across the street from Culpepper Insurance when he felt the impact from the accident.

“I came around the side of the building (Texas Roadhouse), and saw it,” Skelley said.

That’s when the Pensacola man called 911 and ran across Highway 90 to see if the driver was OK.

According to Skelley, the male driver was not conscious when he went to aid him.

“I thought he was dead at first,” Skelley said. “He was hanging halfway out of the truck.”

The Milton Police Department has not been able to release the name of the driver or details surrounding the late Tuesday evening accident by press time.
