Milton man involved in train mishap

A Milton man was involved in a train mishap Tuesday morning in Walton County.

According to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol, a Kenworth semi driven by Michael Cole, 51, of Hudsonville, Mich., was hit by an east bound CSX train.

Cole was stopped on State Route 285 at the Highway 90 stop sign. When Cole stopped his rig there was not enough room for his rig to clear the CSX railroad tracks.

While Cole and his passenger, Jill Cole, 38, of Hudsonville, Mich., were waiting to turn onto Highway 90 an approaching east bound CSX train approached the crossing and was unable to stop.

The engine operated by Daniel M. Powell, 57, of Cantonment, Fla., struck the left rear of the trailer being towed by Cole.

Also aboard the train at the time of the accident was Michael J. Yankovich, 53, of Milton.

No one was injured in the accident, but possible charges are pending according to Trooper R.M. Miller, who investigated the crash.
