Church gets big offering
Milton Baptist Church’s Pastor Rev. David Spencer was amazed how quickly the $1.8 million donation went, but it was definitely put to good use.
“There were plenty of needs and I was surprised at how fast the money went,” said Spencer about the anonymous donation. “I was approached a few months ago about the donation and worked out a proposal.”
When reality came the plan was implemented by paying off the $600,000 still owed on their $4.5 million sanctuary.
Started plans to build a church office complex as well as help with the churches food mission as well as other efforts.
“When I was approached about this I was asked where do you see or need,” said Spencer. “So this wasn’t very hard at all with the various agencies we try to help and our large food ministry.
“Our membership is a good, generous church so this wasn’t hard at all.”
Spencer pointed out around three or four times a year he is approached about a donation like this, but he never counts it until the church receives it.
“In the 12 years I have been here this has happened several times,” said Spencer. “This was quite a significant donation so I was in a dream wondering if it was really going to happen.”
Members of the church currently located on Caroline St., which was formed in 1845, are preparing for a mission trip to Indiana to help work on projects around the Indianapolis area as well as continuing their local efforts on things like the Habitat for Humanity houses.
“We are tremendously blessed by the people in the church,” said Spencer. “But the thing about the church is there is always a need that we can address.”
Spencer told the church about the generous donation this past Sunday during the morning worhship service.
With all of the projects the church is involved in Spencer pointed out members will still be expected to continue with their regular tithing.
“The church will still need regular givers,” said Spencer. “But this is an outstanding church family and I have no doubt they will continue their regular tithing.”
