SRMC to host Book Fair

The Santa Rosa Medical Center Auxiliary is sponsoring a book fair on Friday, Nov. 19 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Education Center located directly behind the hospital. Come visit the New Books Are Fun Book Fair to browse all of the great titles available. Cover prices are deeply discounted. Come take advantage of this great opportunity to start your holiday shopping! You are sure to find something for everyone on your list. Proceeds from the sale go toward medical career scholarships and other outreach projects of the Santa Rosa Medical Center Auxiliary.

 

Shellfish Harvest areas re-opened

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services announced that the following shellfish areas re-opened November 11 at sunrise. They are 0222 Escambia Bay, and 0232 East Bay. The re-opening of the waters is in compliance with the management plan. If you have any further questions about the re-opening areas, call Chris Knight or Jill Fleiger at 850/236-2200.

 

City of Milton meetings set

—City of Milton Finance Committee will meet on Thursday, November 18 at 9 a.m. in Conference Room B at City Hall, 6738 Dixon Street.

—City of Milton Parks and Recreation Committee will meet on Monday, Nov. 22 at 8:30 a.m. in Conference Room B at City Hall. All meetings are open to the public. For further information, call the City of Milton at 983-5411.

 

“Starting a Business” workshop

The Small Business Development Center at the University of West Florida, 401 E. Chase Street, Ste. 100, Pensacola, is presenting “Starting A Business” on Tuesday, November 23 from 9 a.m. to noon. Attendees will learn about taxation, financing, insurance, and legal forms of business. Attendance fee is $35 for the public and free for students and faculty members of the University of West Florida who present a Nautilus Card.  Since our funding agency requires a minimum number of attendees, we cancel workshops that don’t meet these requirements. Santa Rosa Art Association offers classes

Every Thursday, a Soft, Medium & Hard Pastels session is offered at 10:30 to 1 p.m. or 1:30 to 4 p.m. Elaine Woodward provides students with individual instruction and suggestions. Tuition per session is $20 for non-members and $15 for SRACF members.

An “Oils for Beginners” session is offered from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Jean Norris will provide individual instruction and helpful hints to students. Tuition is $20 per session for foundation members and $25 per session for non-members.

A Basket Weaving class will be offered Nov. 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will be taught by Mary Ellen Shugart. She will instruct and demonstrate weaving the Rectangular Yarn Basket. Materials will be furnished for this class. You are encouraged to bring a lunch and class size is limited to 6 students. So sign up early! Foundation members’ tuition is $43 and non-members’ tuition is $48. Please call 850/981-1100.

 

Electronics Recycling Day

The Santa Rosa Clean Community System will be celebrating “America Recycles Day” by sponsoring an electronics-recycling day on Saturday, Nov. 20 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Santa Rosa Administrative Complex on Highway 90 in Milton (behind McDonald’s). All types of electronics will be accepted on that day, including computers, printers, cell phones and many other electronic items. There will be a $10 fee for each television because of hazardous material that must be handled. In addition the public may see examples of “Santa Rosa Sunshine” recycled glass and a new venture that involves using old plastic grocery bags to make new items.

Lunch & Learn Seminar at SRMC

Santa Rosa Medical Center will host a lunch & learn seminar with Jenny West, ARNP.  The seminar will take place on Monday, November 22 at 11:30 A.M. in the education center located directly behind the hospital. Ms. West will be discussing symptoms, risk factors, causes and treatment of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, Gastritis, Peptic Ulcer Disease, and Gastric Cancer.  The luncheon is free.  To register, please call 850-626-5113.

 

West Florida Hospital’s Mammography Unit scheduled

The West Florida Hospital’s Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the United Bank (Milton Branch), 5907 Berryhill Medical Park Drive in Milton, to offer convenient, high-quality mammography services for women age 35 and older.
