Teens charged in burglary of business
Police have arrested two teens involved with the burglary of an Avalon Boulevard business over the weekend.
Wade Heisler, 19, and Andrew Kenworthy, 18, both of Milton, were charged with three third degree felonies after stealing over $6,500 worth of items and causing $4,000 worth of damage to Avalon Plumbing.
On Jan. 4 a Santa Rosa County officer responded to a phone call claiming a business property had been burglarized and the inside vandalized.
The victim told the officer his son stored several musical instruments including three guitars, a drum set, and a set of cymbals with stands at the business. Also noted as missing were a surfboard and an amplifier.
The inside walls and property of the business had been spray painted, reporting the extent of the damage at $4,000.
On Jan. 26, the victim contacted the deputy after noting a posting on Craigslist, an online classified Website, selling items similar to what was taken from the business.
The post was attempting to sell two guitars, one for $340, and another for $140. It also included an amplifier that the post was asking $40 for.
The owner of the property verified the items showed similar characteristics to the one’s taken from him earlier that month.
Heisler was contacted by a deputy on Jan. 28.
After looking over the items the deputy was able to identify several modifications described by the victim, and Heisler was arrested. The suspect later provided the officer with a surfboard, which was also listed stolen from the burglary.
Heisler admitted that he and a friend (Andrew Kenworthy) had broken into the business and spray painted the walls.
Kenworthy reportedly gave the items to Heisler to put them on a classifieds website to make money.
Heisler accompanied patrolmen to Kenworthy’s residence in Milton.
After Kenworthy was read his Miranda rights, he admitted that both he and Heisler had broken into the business and taken the instruments. Kenworthy said he and Heisler saw a hole in the back door and kicked it in, and admitted that both had helped spray paint inside the business.
Both suspects were charged with three third degree felonies, including grand theft between $5,000 and $10,000, and burglary of an unoccupied structure. Bond was posted at $4,500.
In a separate incident that occurred Sunday, deputies spotted a vehicle at 10:25 p.m. quickly backing out of a piece of private property without their headlights on.
During a traffic stop, Deputy Bradley Harrison observed two male subjects making furtive movements with their hands below the dashboard.
For safety purposes, Harrison asked Ryan Flinn, 20 of Milton, and Jimmy McCaskill, 32, of Pensacola, to place their hands on the dashboard of the vehicle they were in.
The smell of marijuana odor was present when the officer handcuffed the suspects, and the substance was present in plain view.
The officer patted down Flinn, and found large roll of money in the suspect’s pocket.
While searching the vehicle, the deputy found a bag of marijuana, a small bag of cocaine, and a backpack in the trunk of the vehicle that contained two digital scales.
After being booked at Santa Rosa County Jail, Flinn admitted that the money that was in his pocket was gained from selling marijuana, and the drugs inside the car were for selling and personal use.
Flinn was given a bond amount of $15,500 and charged with three third degree felonies and a first-degree misdemeanor. McCaskill was charged with one third degree felony for cocaine possession and two first-degree misdemeanors. McCaskill was issued $6,000 bond.
