City of Milton meetings

• Milton’s Computer Committee will meet on Monday, Dec. 14 at 8 a.m. in Conference Room B at City Hall, 6738 Dixon Street, Milton.

Don’t Forget! Boat Parade tonight!

Tonight, at 6:30 p.m., there will be a “Riverwalk Christmas,” with the Lighted Boat Parade beginning at Reggie’s (east side of Blackwater Bridge). The parade will be led by the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Department. It will go from the railroad trestle, pass the boardwalk for judging and end up at Russell Harbor Park (east side of Bridge on left), then back to the Riverwalk for the Blessing of the Fleet. Be sure to bring your family and friends to enjoy this special event!

 

“Spirit of Christmas” is tomorrow

Marcus Pointe Baptist Church, 6205 North “W” Street, Pensacola, announces their “Annual Spirit of Christmas” for Sunday, Dec. 13 at 10 a.m. Live music will preclude the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. Special guest is J.C. Watts, former congressman and chairman of t he House Republican Conference, former quarterback for the Oklahoma Sooners, and ordained minister. He will be speaking at 10 a.m.

Everyone is invited! There is no cost to attend. Come and enjoy beautiful music, hear J.C. Watts speak, and stay for a free roast beef dinner after the service. There is childcare for infants 6 weeks through 4-year-olds, and an exciting service for children K-5 through 5th grade. (6th grade and above go to main service). Pensacola Lutheran Blind Mission

On Saturday, Dec. 19 at 4:45 p.m., the Pensacola Lutheran Blind Mission (PLBM) will hold a special evening celebrating the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ. This Christmas service will be conducted by the members of the Blind Mission for other blind, visually impaired, and sighted individuals at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 24 Wright Street in Pensacola. Following our Christmas service a dinner will be served. Reservations are required by Thursday, Dec. 17 by calling 850/457-3039. The last part of the evening will be enjoyed by playing the “Dirty Santa” game. A special thank you to those who volunteer their time to the PLBM and the Immanuel Lutheran Church for sponsoring us.

 

Volunteers needed

Luces Navidenas Incorporated is looking for volunteers, donors and sponsors for their 5th annual Luces Navidenas needy children’s Christmas party. We expect over 500 children and families to attend. The event will be held on Sunday, Dec. 20 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club’s Teen Center in Fort Walton Beach. This Latin-flavored party provides free gifts, toys, clothes, food and entertainment for all children that attend. We are also looking for donations from food establishments, especially those with Hispanic/Latin menus, wishing to donate all or part of the food that will be served at the party. Salt & Light meeting

State Representative Greg Evers will address Salt and Light, a group of concerned Christian citizens, at a meeting at Pine Terrace Baptist Church in Milton on Friday, Dec. 18, at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited. Evers, who is a candidate for the Florida State Senate will discuss the issues facing lawmakers and each of us as Panhandle citizens.

Evers, who now holds the Legislative seat vacated by Jeff Miller, will be vying for the State Senate seat now held by Durrell Peaden of Crestview. A business man and farmer, he operates the family-founded Baker Farm Center, which supplies farm needs, fertilizer and fee from the store in Baker, FL. He operates Greg Evers farms in Santa Rosa and Okaloosa Counties, growing peanuts, cotton, wheat and soy beans. He has served on legislative councils and committees dealing with ports, economic development, education, natural resources, government accountability and community affairs. T. T. Wentworth, Jr. displays Derby Days

A new exhibit has “raced its way” into the Wentworth Museum, 330 South Jefferson Street, Pensacola. Artifacts and exhibits highlight the Cubmobile Derby, Soap Box Derby and the Pinewood Derby, while exploring the fast-paced history of car racing. Local Boy Scouts have a long tradition of making derby cars and participating in races. The museum is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 850/595-5985.

 

West Fla. Mobile Mammography schedule

West Florida Hospital’s Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the following location for the week of Dec. 14 to offer convenient, high quality mammography services for women age 35 and over. The unit will be at Santa Rosa Women’s Center, 4252 Woodbine Road in Pace from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14. West Florida Hospital files most insurances, including Medicare (Medicare will cover screening mammograms every year with no deductible for those women over 40 who have that coverage.) The Mobile Mammography Unit provides services that feature an all-female staff of nationally certified and licensed technologists and state of the art equipment, including Digital Mammography and CAD (Computer Aided Detection).
