Milton child drowns
Two year old dies after being resuscitated
A two-year-old child has died after he was pulled unconscious from a swimming pool Saturday afternoon and then resuscitated.
Connor Andrews, of 6892 Cedar Ridge Circle in Milton, died around 1 a.m. Sunday at Sacred Heart Hospital. He was the son of Jarod and Jaime Andrews of the same address.
"No charges are expected to be filed in the death investigation," says Detective Greg Gordon with the Pensacola Police Department.
The incident occurred around 2:14 p.m. Saturday at the home of Connor's grandparents, Maria and Robert Andrews, both 45, of 7785 La Nain Drive in Pensacola.
Maria Andrews told police the family was inside the house at around 2:05 p.m. preparing for a party. She said she was in the kitchen making a bottle for her youngest grandchild and that Connor was in the kitchen with her.
Andrews said she walked out of the kitchen with the baby and began feeding her the bottle in the living room at around 2:11 p.m. She said the baby was restless so she decided to put her down in bed. As she was doing so, she realized she hadn't seen Connor for two to three minutes, so she picked up the baby and rushed toward the kitchen.
As she entered the dining area, she says she looked through the sliding glass doors and saw Connor lying on the bottom of the shallow end of the pool. She and her husband ran outside and Robert Andrews jumped into the pool and pulled Connor out of the water.
As Maria Andrews began CPR on the child, Robert Andrews called 911.
Officer David Huhn of the Pensacola Police Department and Maria Andrews tried to determine how Connor had gotten outside. Maria Andrews said there was a door leading into the garage and backyard from the kitchen. When she opened the door to the garage, she discovered the baby gate that should have been in the doorway was missing.
It is believed Connor exited the house through a door to the garage, and then walked into the backyard from the garage.
