MILTON — A Santa Rosa County driver reported minor injuries when his car clipped another car that had stopped on the side of the interstate.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, 49-year-old Clinton Retherford was driving his pickup truck on Interstate 10 near mile marker 27 when his trailer came off his trailer hitch. Retherford moved his car to the shoulder of the road, but his car was still partially in the lane, according to the report.
A semi-truck driven by 70-year-old Edward Lawrence of Baker was traveling in the westbound outside lane and didn't see Retherford or his car in the outside lane, and the front right corner of his truck struck the left side of the car.
The semi-truck rolled over onto the driver side and came to a final rest blocking both lanes of I-10. Lawrence reported minor injuries and was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola for treatment.
Retherford was charged with failure to maintain safety chains.
