MILTON — Authorities in Santa Rosa County are looking for the driver of a car who abandoned it in a ditch after striking and killing a pedestrian late Monday night.
According to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol, at 10:40 p.m. Monday a 2002 Lincoln LS sedan was traveling east on a driveway or private road at 9065 John Hamm Road when it struck a pedestrian, identified as 52-year-old Hafid Scully of Milton.
The car became stuck in a nearby drainage pond after the collision and was left abandoned.
Scully was taken to West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the Lincoln LS fled the scene and is unknown. Anyone with information about the driver is asked to call the Florida Highway Patrol at 484-5000.
