DEFUNIAK SPRINGS —  A man was arrested for domestic battery by strangulation after evading police by jumping onto rooftops, according to a press release.

DeFuniak Springs Police Officers responded to a local convenience store on May 5 in reference to a suspicious male climbing on their roof. Officers arrived and recognized the subject Robert Lee Hutton, 33, who was wanted on a previous domestic violence charge.

Hutton was requested by officers to come down from the roof, but refused and evaded police by jumping onto a nearby shed, the release said. Hutton continued to refuse commands by officers.

According to the press release, when Hutton moved to the center of the roof, an officer deployed their taser and was able to take him into custody without further incident.  

Hutton was transported to the Walton County Jail and booked on charges of trespassing, loitering or prowling, resisting an officer without violence and domestic battery by strangulation.  

At the time of this writing, Hutton was being held on a $5,000 bond.
