Holy Spirit defeated visiting Berry, 48-33, in the AHSAA Class 1A, Area 9 opener for both teams on Tuesday night.

Holy Spirit’s Imani Thompson led all scorers with 19 points. She made five steals, two rebounds and two assists. Aryn Head had nine points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals.

Berry was led by Summer Bullard’s nine points and by Bethany Townsel’s 10 rebounds and three points.

Berry is 3-4 overall and 0-1 in Area 9 play. Holy Spirit (5-1, 1-0) will host Hubbertville on Friday.


Hoover 67,

Central 33

Central, ranked No. 4 in AHSAA Class 4A, took the home loss to the AHSAA Class 7A’s No. 1-ranked team, a team ranked No. 13 in the nation.

Central’s MacKenzie Mahone led the Falcons with 13 points, and Latarius Montgomery was next with seven points.

Hoover’s Eboni Williams led the game with 23 points, and Joiya Maddox scored 15.

Central (9-2) hots Hale County on Thursday.


Hillcrest 66,

Northridge 14

Hillcrest’s Cierria Cunningham scored 14 points, A’Nya Banks had 11 points, and Alton James and Audriah Fryer both scored nine points.

The Patriots (8-2) will host their own Hillcrest All-State Insurance Invitational this week, playing Central-Hayneville on Thursday.


Sipsey Valley 51,

Gordo 36

GORDO – For undefeated Sipsey Valley, Taylor Smith scored 18 points and Denetria Williams 16.

Gordo’s Corley Sellers was the game’s top scorer with 22 points.

Sipsey Valley (8-0) plays in the Hillcrest tournament beginning on Thursday against Bibb County.

HOLT – Sierra Carter led the win and the game with 21 points. Caitilin Maniece was Holt’s next highest scorer with nine points.

Maggie Sullivan led American Christian Academy’s offense with 12 points.

HUBBERTVILLE – Gracie Dodd had a double-double for Hubbertville in the loss, grabbing 20 rebounds to go with 16 points. Lexie Webster was one short of a double-double, scoring 12 points and making nine rebounds.

SAMANTHA - Summer Geer led Northside with 18 points. Taylor Stroud hit for 14 points. Also for the Rams, Destinee Owens had 12 rebounds while Paige Jones had 10 rebounds.

Ieisha Merida led Bryant with 22 points in the Stampede's firs win of the season. Jakina Hines scored nine points.

Tuscaloosa Christian was led by Loren Caudle with 16 points and Brooke Loper with 10.

GREENSBORO - Trinity Hambright scored 22 points, made eight rebounds and three assists for Greensboro. Reginiqua Fields had 12 points, and KaTyreah Williams had 15 points and 11 rebounds.

COTTONDALE – Kailex Stephens scored 15 points and Jared Sherfield eight for Paul W. Bryant.

JEMISON – Three Warriors scored in double figures, with Tanner Burrows scoring a career-high 35 points and combining his scoring with 14 rebounds. Clay Ramsey scored 13 points to go with seven assists, and Derrick Johns scored 10 points.

HUBBERTVILLE – Aaron Cribb had a double-double, scoring 19 points and pulling down 13 rebounds for Hubbertville. Tanner Upton scored 15, Brady Tucker 12 and Zach Hubbert 11.

Hillcrest won its AHSAA Class 6A, Area 7 opener, led by 26 points from Christian Jones.
