WEST BLOCTON - Curtis Wright threw two touchdowns on 11-for-11 passing and rushed for another as the West Blocton Tigers defeated Verbena 33-6 Friday night in a Class 4A, Region 4 match-up.

Wright scored on a 3-yard run before throwing a 15-yard touchdown to Keontae Taylor and a 6-yard scoring pass to Stephen White.

Jamison Fisher rushed for 91 yards which included a 75-yard touchdown run for the Tigers. Jamon Johnson also added a 36-yard touchdown run. Brennan Morris caught three passes for 61 yards.

West Blocton (3-3, 1-2) hosts Oak Grove next Friday.

 

South Lamar 14,

Curry 8

JASPER - Jarrett Bryant caught a 78-yard touchdown pass from Jack Dowdle midway through the fourth quarter as Class 1A South Lamar rallied to beat Class 5A Curry.

South Lamar took an early 7-0 first-quarter lead on an 18-yard run by Herachio Washington, before Curry rallied with a touchdown and 2-point conversion in the second quarter for an 8-7 advantage.

Washington finished with 97 yards rushing.

Austin Keasler and Bryant each had 12 tackles to lead the South Lamar defense, while Grant Williams had seven tackles and one fumble recovery.

South Lamar (5-1) hosts Marion County next Friday.

 

Lamar County 49,

Berry 19

VERNON - Isaac Whittle scored three touchdowns on runs of 22, 1 and 31 yards for Lamar County in its victory over Berry.

Rick Rodgers threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Charles Wise for another Lamar County touchdown, while Taye Buchanan, Jacob Perrizin and Thomas Esk each scored a touchdown.

Tyler Smith threw two touchdowns for Berry and scored another on a 13-yard run. Smith thew an 80-yard scoring pass to Cameron Bonner and a 15-yard touchdown to Jeremiah Zann.

Lamar County (4-2) hosts Red Bay next Friday, while Berry (1-5) has a bye before traveling to Holy Spirit on Oct. 13.

 

Pickens Academy 20,

Newton County (Miss.) 6

CARROLLTON - Seth Peeks rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries as Pickens Academy defeated Newton County.

Peeks scored on runs of 7 and 38 yards. Riley Harcrow followed with 50 yards rushing on 12 carries and on defense added 12 tackles. Lee Acker had two interceptions.

Grady McGlawn caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Hamner Allen for another Pickens Academy score.

Pickens Academy travels to Southern Academy next Friday.
