GULF BREEZE — Five people were sent to the hospital with minor injuries Wednesday morning after a crash in Gulf Breeze.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 9:14 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 98 and Nantahala Beach Road. A black Ford Explorer driven by 40-year-old Joe Bates of Gravette, Arkansas, was traveling east on U.S. 98 and entered the intersection of Nantahala Beach Road. A Toyota Rav4 driven by 72-year-old Clara Thomas of Gulf Breeze entered the intersection on a green light to turn left, but did not have the right of way.
The Explorer crashed into the passenger side of the Toyota. Thomas and Bates were sent to the hospital along with Bates' passengers, 38-year-old Chasity Bates, 64-year-old Barbra Bates and a 14-year-old and 9-year-old child.
All passengers and both drivers were wearing seat belts.
Thomas was charged with failure to yield the right of way.
