WALTON COUNTY – A passing motorist called 911 after seeing a car pulled over on the shoulder of Interstate 10 and a man grabbing a woman by the hair and throwing her to the ground.

The caller said the woman threw something into the woods before the man threw her to the ground, according to his Walton County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

The deputy traveled along the I-10 but did not see the vehicle the caller described. After getting off at the DeFuniak Springs exit, the deputy saw the car driving on U.S. 331.

He stopped the car and asked the female to step out of the car.

She was visibly shaken and told the deputy that the driver was her boyfriend and the two had been arguing when she threw his pack of cigarettes out the car window.

He stopped suddenly and threw her to the ground, she said.

Her boyfriend, a 40-year-old DeFuniak Springs man, denied grabbing her hair and throwing her to the ground. He said that when she got out of the car, she slipped and fell and he helped her to her feet.

The woman had grass stains on her shirt and the back of her shorts.

He was charged with domestic battery violence.
