While trying to pass on highway, handlebars make contact which initiates fatal accident.

The Florida Highway Patrol is reporting that a collision between two Alabama motorcyclists has claimed the life of one man. The accident occurred at 9:37 p.m. Friday.

According to a FHP news release, Thomas Woodrow, 37, of Tuscaloosa, and Jonathan White, 29, of Northport, were traveling south on Interstate 110 near Pensacola at the Creighton Road overpass at the time of the fatal collision.

FHP stated that Woodrow, on a 2016 Yamaha YZFR1S, attempted to pass White, who was operating a 2007 Honda CBR1000, but failed to maintain control and went partially into the lane occupied by White's motorcycle.

The handlebars of both motorcycles made contact, causing Woodrow to lose control, entering onto the paved shoulder of the roadway and colliding with a concrete barrier wall. The Yamaha continued traveling in a southerly direction until colliding with a light pole, which ejected Woodrow from the motorcycle.

Woodrow was pronounced dead at the scene. White was not injured in the collision.

Both motorcyclists were wearing helmets and alcohol was not related to the accident. FHP noted that charges are pending the completion of a traffic homicide investigation.
