NAVARRE — Emergency crews and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to a report of potential missing swimmers in Navarre on Monday morning.

Brandi Whitehurst, spokeswoman for Santa Rosa County, said the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission received a report that someone had seen two swimmers on a floatation device in the Gulf of Mexico at around 9:30 Monday morning.

Firefighters from the Navarre Beach Fire Department went to the scene and determined the report was unfounded after they found no signs of a missing swimmer. The U.S. Coast Guard was called in to search as well, and a 45-foot response boat from the Destin Coast Guard Station assisted in the search.

Petty Officer Lexie Preston, spokeswoman for the U.S. Coast Guard, said  the Coast Guard suspended its search after two hours because they found no evidence that swimmers had gone missing.
