Jeremy Ross of Niceville struck the rear of an SUV on U.S. 98 in Navarre
NAVARRE — A Niceville man died Tuesday morning from a motorcycle crash on U.S. Highway 98, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The FHP reported that Jeremy Ross, 22, was traveling west in the inside lane of U.S. 98 on a 2016 Kawasaki when he approached a 2003 Ford SUV driven by Jamaal Nicholas, 34, of Navarre, that was also traveling west but was stopped in traffic awaiting to make a left turn at Fontainbleau Court. Ross did not stop and crashed into the rear of the SUV. Ross was thrown into the westbound left turn lane.
Holley-Navarre Fire District Battalion Chief Howie Rounsaville said firefighters were dispatched to the scene about 8:20 a.m.
Rounsaville added that EMS was on the scene when firefighters arrived. Ross was on the ground and unresponsive. Firefighters initially were dispatched to assist with a medical helicopter landing, but LifeFlight was canceled because of fog.
"We continued to assist the patient. EMS transported him to Gulf Breeze Hospital where we was pronounced dead," Rounsaville said.
Ross was wearing a helmet, the FHP said. No one else was injured.
Santa Rosa County sheriff's deputies assisted with the crash.
The investigation is ongoing, according to the the FHP.
