MILTON — Whataburger Restaurants will host the third annual jalapeño-eating contest between friendly rivals Pace and Milton high schools.

The event is 5-7 p.m. Oct. 25 at 4983 Highway 90. Each school’s marching band will face off in a battle of heat resistance with guest emcees, Brent and Merilee, from Cat Country. The team that consumes the most jalapeños in 60 seconds will win $1,000.

Additionally, the marching band that brings the most fans to the restaurant will earn $500 more. Throughout the night, there will be raffles with prize giveaways, as well as a chance to enter Whataburger’s “Whataburger for a Year” drawing, where one customer’s name will be drawn to win the prize — a free Whataburger each week for an entire year. There will also be a drumline competition at the event.

“Jalapeños are a signature topping at Whataburger, and we’re thrilled to spice things up with a fair, spirited competition between the Pace and Milton High School drumlines,” said Whataburger Director of Operations Lee Cartledge.

“We wish both teams the best of luck in this brief, yet intense, contest and we’ll be ready to serve them with a large, cold beverage as soon as it’s over!”
