NAVARRE — An argument over a child custody issue that endangered a child led to the arrest of 30-year-old Shaun Leslie Anderson of Navarre.
He was charged April 8 with felony child cruelty for the incident, which happened in a Walmart parking lot.
Anderson and a woman were arguing over a small child in the parking lot on April 7. Several other customers reported the incident to security personnel inside the store.
The woman told deputies she’d agreed to meet Anderson at Walmart to get the child and to transfer money. In the parking lot, Anderson told her he couldn’t let her take the child and the two began to struggle, according to his Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
Several people, including the victim, called 911.
During the struggle, Anderson forcibly removed the child from the woman’s arms, the report said.
Anderson told the deputy that the woman had just told him she was moving to New York and taking the child with her and that he became upset.
The deputy noted that the child was clearly in danger.
