Local Photographer Receives DISTINGUISHED AWARD IN STATE COMPETITION
Local photographer, Tom Carter, has earned a distinguished award at the annual Salon Judging in Orlando, Florida for his entry in the Florida Professional Photographers' Photographic Competition.
Tom's winning entry, titled "Mean Green Machine" won a Merit Award in the Abstracts Category of this statewide competition. The image was a solarized print of an antique snow blower on the front of a diesel
locomotive at a railroad museum in Wisconsin.
This image was judged to be one of the best photographs in the category. The award carries prestige and honor throughout the photographic field because of the high standard of the competition. There were over 425 entries in the judging.
Florida Professional Photographers' President Cherilyn Nocera recognized this coveted award during the banquet at Orlando's beautiful Rosen Plaza Hotel, where the conferees assembled.
Other Carter images selected to hang in the Florida Professional Photographers' Photographic Competition Salon were: "River Veils - Three", a dramatic image of bride Tiana Thomas Ivey taken on the Sepulga River in South Alabama; "Orange Peel", an image of peeling paint on a boxcar; and "Seeing Red In Purple", an image of scullers on a river in Tampa.
Tom was accompanied to the conference by his wife, Gloria, who received an honorary Florida Service Award in 2008 for her many years of hard work on the Florida Professional Photographers' Salon Committee.
