Morning Glory Meeting

The Morning Glory Circle of the Milton Garden Club will have their monthly meeting on Thursday, February 6 at 9:30 a.m. in the Milton Garden Center, 5256 Alabama Street, Milton. City of Milton meetings

• Milton’s Technology Committee will meet on Monday, February 8, at 8 a.m. in Conference Room B at City Hall, 6738 Dixon Street, Milton.

• Community Redevelopment Agency will meet on Tuesday, February 9, at 4:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 6738 Dixon Street.

Instant Piano for busy people

The date of this class is Wednesday, Feb. 24 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. This is a beginning class in chord piano, where in one session, students will learn all the chords needed to play any pop song, any style, any key, reading chord symbols, not notes. They’ll also learn how to embellish songs using the secrets and magical shortcuts of professional piano players. Instructor is David Haynes. Prerequisites: If students don’t know treble clef, they can send a SASE for free pamphlet tot Music Masters, 90 Molly Lane, Ringgold, GA 30736. Then they can enroll with confidence. Black History Month Celebration

Come join us as we celebrate Black History Month this Sunday, February 7. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Guest speaker will be Markus Green from Milton. Surplus Bargain Books at your library

A used book sale to benefit all Santa Rosa County libraries will be held Friday and Saturday, February 12-13 at the Santa Rosa County Auditorium located at 4530 Spikes Way in Milton, off of Old Bagdad Highway. The sale will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. The sale is a joint effort of the Library Foundation and all county Library Friends Groups – Gulf Breeze, Milton, Navarre, and Pace who support Library collections and services with their fundraising efforts. Books and computer CPUs will be sold at bargain prices, with book prices ranging from 25¢ to $4 and computer CPUs on sale for $30. Cash only will be accepted – no checks or credit cards. You will find great bargains while helping your libraries, so mark your calendar!

 

Calling All Relay Teams

The countdown is on as the April 30-May 1 Milton Relay For Life is fast approaching. Mark your calendar NOW, to be part of this wonderful community event. Relay is a community gathering, one in which everyone can enjoy, regardless of age or athletic ability. This year’s event will once again be held at the Milton Campus of PJC, who has graciously played host for our Relay for 16 years. The weekend of activities begin as we honor cancer survivors with a 4:30 p.m. reception on Friday, April 30, followed by the traditional first lap around the track during the opening ceremony. Family members, caregivers and friends are encouraged to join in this celebration of hope and reflection. The day of Relay, teams of friends, churches, families, schools, businesses and service organizations take turns walking, jogging or running around the track while enjoying the overnight hours of fun, food, games, entertainment and camaraderie in a huge celebration of life. Make plans now to bring your tents and sleeping bags, as there are still great campsites available. SBDC at UWF offers workshops

The Small Business Development Center at the University of West Florida (401 E. Chase Street, Ste. 100, Pensacola) is holding its “Marketing Matters for Small Business” Workshop on Tuesday evening, Feb. 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. Attendees will learn practical, cost-effective strategies for marketing a small business. The fee for attending this workshop is $35 for the public and free for students and faculty members of the University of West Florida who present a Nautilus card. Since our funding agency requires a minimum number of attendees, we cancel workshops that don’t meet these requirements. Pre-registration is strongly recommended. Call to register at 850-473-7830.

The Florida Small Business Development Center/Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC), located at the same address as above, is also offering a workshop, “How to do Business with the Naval Facilities Engineering Command” on Thursday, Feb. 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Find out how to do business with the Naval Facilities Engineering Command. Local Student Achievements

Melissa A. McGuire made the Dean’s list for the August to December 2009 award period at  Columbia College is located in Columbia, MO. Congratulations!

Anna Peterson of Milton, made the Dean’s List for the Spring Semester 2009 at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). Congratulations!

Navarre residents, Matthew Birk, John Grucella, Dianna Kendall, James Smith and Alexandra Danielle Rolwes, all received degrees last June 2009 from Southwestern College, Winfield, Kansas. Congratulations!

William Brandon Bennett of Milton received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from  Samford University, Birmingham, AL, on December 12, 2009. Congratulations!
