Peanut Festival plans in the making

     Time is drawing near for the 20th annual Peanut Festival October 3 - 4, 2009. All those wanting to participate in the festival as vendors, entertainment or displays need to respond soon.
     The Peanut Festival is held each year on the Gabbert Farm, located about 4.5 miles south of Jay, off Hwy. 89 at 3604 Pine Level Church Road. It is held in memory of the Gabbert’s daughter, Melissa Caroline Gabbert, who died of complications of cancer at the age of nineteen.
     Admission is free, and so is the parking.
     The Peanut Festival is also held to promote the peanut growers here in Santa Rosa County. There will be peanuts - green, boiled, roasted, fried, and candied. And, some of the baked goods will have peanuts in them.
     The Peanut Festival is a family event. There will be arts, crafts, antiques, anvil shoot, grist mill, a pig chase, a Pet Parade & Contest, inflatable rides, train rides, wagon rides, pony rides, wall climbing, games, face painting, t-shirts, tattoos, hair-coloring, foods of all kinds, lemonade, snow cones, candied apples, cotton candy, funnel cakes, kettle corn, blooming onions, apple dumplings, corn on the cob, fudge and so much more!
     The 1930s Farm Museum will be open for tours with a surprise addition. The antique shop will also be open. Live entertainment will be available both days; Saturday-mixture of music, Sunday-Gospel music. A church service will be held Sunday morning at 9 a.m. for those wishing to attend.
