McCall, Sgt. Daniel L.

Sgt. Daniel L. McCall, age 24, was killed in action, Tuesday, October 30, 2007 while serving his country in Salmen Pak, Iraq.

Daniel was a 2001 Pace High School Honor graduate and had many friends. Daniel was very athletic and held numerous track records, many of which still stand. He was loved by all who met him and his smile would brighten up a room the moment he entered. He never complained or had a negative comment to say about anyone.

Daniel enlisted in the United States Army June 2004, following in his grandfather “Duke‘s“ footsteps, as he is a retired Vietnam Army Veteran. He was assigned to Ft. Benning, GA, for completion of Basic Training and Airborne School. Daniel was transferred to Ft. Bragg, NC, for Special Forces Training. It was at Ft. Bragg that Daniel met the love of his life, Brittnay, whom he married in April of 2006. Sgt. McCall eventually returned to Ft. Benning to serve with the 3rd Infantry Division and was deployed to Iraq in March 2007. Sgt. McCall’s accomplishments while serving his country include: Combat Life Savers Training, Sniper School, Warrior Leaders Course, Airborne School and Special Forces Training. Daniel’s medals for service are the Purple Heart, Parachute’s Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star Medal, ARCOM, AGCM, NDSM, ICM, GWTSM, and ASR.

Daniel will always be remembered by his beloved family; his wife—Brittnay McCall, Columbus, GA; his loving mother— Petra McCall, Macon, GA; grandparents—Marvin “Duke” and Liane McCall, of Pace, FL; two uncles—Dr. Robin (Dr. Donna) McCall, of Picayune, MS, and Billy McCall of Alvarado, TX; and his mother-in-law—Ms. Susan Koning, of Holland, MI.

Funeral services for Sgt. McCall will be 11:30 a.m., Thursday, November 8, 2007, at West Milton Church of Christ, with Minister Mike Mefford officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery, aboard Pensacola N.A.S., at 2:00 p.m., with Lewis Funeral Home of Milton, directing.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at West Milton Church of Christ, in Pea Ridge.

Daniel once said his heroes were “Jesus, my Grandfather, my Wife, the Men I work with.”
