Office Closures & Re-openings
The offices and departments under the Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners and the offices of the SRC Appraiser, SRC Clerk of the Court, SRC Supervisor of Elections, and the SRC Tax Collector will reopen on Monday, Dec. 28, regular office hours. The library system for the county will reopen on Monday, Dec. 28, also. The Central Landfill located at 6337 Da Lisa Road reopened today, Dec. 26 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
For New Year’s - The offices and departments under the SRC Board of County Commissioners and the offices of the SRC Property Appraiser, SRC Clerk of Court, SRC Supervisor of Elections, and SRC Tax Collector WILL BE CLOSED on Friday, January 1 for New Year’s Day. Regular office hours will resume on Monday, Jan. 4. Library will be closed January 1-3.
Central Landfill will be closed on Friday, January 1 and will reopen on January 2 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Columbus Ships Pinta & Nina have arrived
The replica ships, Pinta & Nina arrived in Palafox Harbor, on Dec. 22nd. They will be in port until Monday morning, Jan. 4th. The Pinta and the Nina will be open to the public. The Nina was built by hand and without the use of power tools and considered to be the most historically correct Columbus replica ever built. The Pinta was recently built in Brazil and is a larger version of the archetypal caravel. While in port, the general public is invited to visit the ships for a walk-aboard self-guided tour. The prices are $7 for adults, $6 for senior citizens and $5 for students. Children under 4 are Free. The ships are open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. No reservations are necessary. J.D. “Mayor” Bray turned 90 Christmas Day
The former Mayor of Jay, J.D. Bray turned 90 on Dec. 25th. A celebration of this event will be held tomorrow, Sunday, Dec. 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Jay Community Center on Booker Lane. Friends are invited to come by and help make this a special day. Refreshments will be served. No gifts, please.
Christmas Tree Disposal Sites
Santa Rosa County residents can dispose of their live Christmas trees until Saturday, Feb. 28 at five recycling areas throughout the county. Please place trees in the designated area identified by signage. Do not place trees in front of the recycling containers.
The following sits are open at: Quintette Recycle Area at t he Five Points Intersection; Gulf Power Recycle Area on East Spencer Field Road; Clean Community System on Park Avenue; Tiger Point Recreation Area in Gulf Breeze, east of Wal-Mart.

Southern Miss grants degree to Pace student
Kayla Marie Smith of Pace received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, MS on December 11, 2009. Congratulations!
National Naval Aviation Museum reopens today
The National Naval Aviation Museum reopened today at 9 a.m. (Dec. 26). In addition, those visiting the Museum during the holiday weekends of Dec. 26 through the 28 and Dec. 31 through January 4 must enter Naval Air Station Pensacola through the main gate. The West gage will be closed during these periods. The National Naval Aviation Museum features FREE admission and a full slate of events throughout the year. Lions Club news
The Milton Lions Club served the community by distributing Christmas Food Baskets on recently in their community. This was part of a project to assure that at least 250 families in our North Florida area would have a Christmas Dinner and some extras as well. According to Lion member, James Cutts, Club President, ”Money raised on several local projects including Golf Tournaments, Raffles, Yard Sales, and selling Lion Brooms will allow Lions to meet pressing needs in our community including food baskets, eye examinations, eye glasses, and cataract surgery.” Lion’s members thank everyone who contributed to this important work. You are truly helping Lions make a difference. MHS ’70 Reunion Organizational meeting
Milton High School Class of 1970, Organizational Meeting will be Monday, Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Milton, Bldg.
