Bagdad under boil advisory

A water boil advisory is in effect for areas north of Da Lisa Rd in Bagdad until further notice after a water pipe and valve burst on the corner of Ella and Church Street Tuesday morning.

The burst came weeks after a boil advisory struck the Pace area.  Bagdad Elementary is under a boil advisory, but did not dismiss students early. Bagdad Elementary staff member Renee Gabbard told the Press Gazette that school will still go on as scheduled, but students are being asked not to drink the water.

Dawn Newbury, the assistant operator at the Bagdad- Garcon Water System in Bagdad said crew members are currently working to fix the pipe burst, and the Department of Environmental Protection are currently working with the water company to help speed along the lift on the advisory.

“There are quite a bit of people effected by this right now,” said Newbury.  “But we have guys that are working on it right now.”

The water plant put out notices to the surrounding area to ensure residents were aware of the incident.

“We are trying to get the word out since there is a vast amount of people effected,” said Newbury.  “As a precaution from the DEP, we have to have our customers boil their water until further notice.”
