Firefighters responding to the area of Saragon Ln. and Garcon Pt. Rd. are reporting heavy black smoke in view.



Florida Fire Service says there are no controlled burns scheduled today.

Some firetrucks are on scene. More trucks are being dispatched.



Fire is currently on the west side in a heavily wooded area, according to those on scene, but firefighters are reporting burning embers are blowing across the road, toward Mary Kitchens Rd.



Bagdad; Avalon; East Milton; Midway; and Florida Forestry Service on scene first. 



Motorists - use caution in the area.



2:51 p.m. update - Additional fire departments continue to be dispatched to assist Avalon Fire Department.



2:28 p.m. update - Talk of asking Sheriff's deputies to close Garcon Pt. Rd. and Saragon Ln.



3:15 p.m. update - Pace and Skyline Fire Departments responding to assist with brush fire.



3:23 p.m. update - Fire approaching Garcon Pt. Rd.



3:40 p.m. update - Santa Rosa County officials issue release confirming the information reported here on previous updates, adding that Santa Rosa County Emergency Management is on scene along with the Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office. Fire departments are taking measures to protect homes on Mercy and Saragon Lanes. Due to the terrain, no size estimates for the fire are currently available.  



3:50 p.m. update - Forest Service helicopter added to the firefighting aparatus on scene, per the Florida Forestry Service.



4:04 p.m. update - Fire Department on scene asking for traffic control on Garcon Pt. Rd. School bus is among vehicles stuck in traffic. 



4:14 p.m. update - Durham transportation office for school bus drivers says a deputy is escorting the bus and the children will all be dropped off shortly.



4:40 p.m. update-  Fire under control. Twenty-five acres burned, according to firefighter on scene. Some departments being released.
