One woman is in jail, accused of stealing from a Pace Dollar General and leaving the scene with another woman who was test driving a BMW from a Pensacola car dealer, according to a Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office report.
Brittney Knapp, 27, of Molino, was arrested this week and charged with larceny and resisting an officer.
In June of this year, Knapp and another woman, Kim Plant, entered the Dollar General on Highway 90 in Pace. After several minutes, Plant left the store and Knapp continued shopping. Knapp purchased a cooler and exited the store.
Knapp returned to the store shortly thereafter, according to the report. She filled a shopping cart with several items and walked past the front counter where the manager was standing. The manager told authorities Knapp made no attempt to purchase the items, adding up to a $166.50 value.
The woman ran through the parking lot and entered the passenger side of a silver BMW. The manager called authorities, alerting them to the theft. While he was on the phone with the Sheriff's Office, he received a call from a customer who witnessed the incident. They said they saw the vehicle heading north on Chumuckla Highway.
The customer said they saw the BMW pull off onto a dirt road, where there was another vehicle waiting.
A search of the vehicle's tag number revealed it was registered to a Pensacola car dealer. Authorities made contact and confirmed that Plant was test driving the vehicle that morning. Shortly after talking with the dealership, Santa Rosa deputies received a call from Plant, who was willing to speak with investigators about the incident.
Knapp was picked up by Escambia County Deputies for the outstanding warrant. She was transferred and booked into the Santa Rosa County jail and issued a $2,000 bond.
No charges have been filed against Plant, the driver of the BMW, according to official records.
