Grab your foursome and register for the Putts for Paws Golf Tournament 1pm Saturday, August 10, at the Tanglewood Country Club.

Compete for first place, longest drive, and closest to the pin. The $65 per player entry fee (or $260 per team) includes a hamburger dinner following the tournament. But hurry—more than half of the 20 team spots are already taken.

Funds raised will help purchase a new K-9 for the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Department, said Tracy Allen, co-organizer of the event and member of the Leadership Santa Rosa Class Class 27. The goal is to purchase the pup—which will help with narcotics detection, suspect apprehension, searching, school visits and more—to replace a retiring K-9 dog.

“Each year the leadership class tries to do something to give back to the community,” Allen said, describing school cleanups, work on Veterans Memorial Plaza, and help at the Boys and Girls Club spearheaded by past leadership classes. “We decided that our legacy project is trying to purchase this canine for the sheriff’s department. The key to this thing is to make sure nothing comes out of the sheriff’s budget on this.”

Don’t golf? Tee signs are available for $50 per sign.

“It’ll be a fun day,” Allen said. “We’re really excited about this. We just want to do a good thing.”
