A Milton man on house arrest was picked up Saturday night, accused of committing a home invasion in Holt. Okaloosa County deputies arrested Douglas Scott Martin, 30, after the homeowner fought back and Martin fled, according to reports.

The incident happened on Wallman Lane around 9:39 p.m. Sheriff's reports say Martin knocked on the door of  Arlie and Joyce Grice, with his face painted black. He is accused of forcing his way into the house armed with an axe handle,  demanding cash.

Also armed with a knife, Okaloosa deputies say he used the axe handle to strike Arlie Grice "numerous times" about the head and torso, causing injury. Martin is also accused of striking Joyce Grice, who was able to escape the home and call 911. According to official reports, her husband armed himself with an axe handle of his own and began to fight back. Martin fled the home at this point, leaving an axe handle, a glove and a bloody shirt behind.

Deputies responded to the scene and two K-9 deputies began tracking the suspect. A short while later, Martin was spotted in the parking lot of Brown's Grocery Store on Hwy. 90 West. Reports say he told deputies the home invasion was a prank.

Arlie Grice, 52, was taken to an Okaloosa medical center with a punctured lung and injuries to his head and torso.

Martin was arrested and charged with home invasion robbery; aggravated battery (two counts) and violation of community control.
